Skincare Routine (Ritucharya) for Winters

The winter season (Shishir Ritu) is perhaps the harshest on the skin with the humidity levels dropping. The temptation to take long hot showers with chemical-laden soaps and use of heaters further strip away your skin’s natural oils making it dry, flaky, cracked and itchy. As you feel less thirsty during winters, the intake of water gets compromised and combined with a sluggish metabolism during the season, your skin is unable to compensate for the loss of its natural oils adequately.

Your regular moisturizers and skincare routine turn more or less ineffective trying to keep up with the drop in temperature and humidity levels. However, with just a slight change in your routine and the kind of products that you use, you can turn winters into your favorite season and flaunt a healthy, glowing and rosy complexion.

Ayurveda recommends a ‘Ritucharya’ or seasonal routine for the winter season and the ensuing period of transition to spring (Basant Ritu) -- just before the days start getting longer and warmer. According to this routine, prescribed by Ayurveda, we should:

• Follow an intense yoga or exercise routine, like the sun salutation (Surya Namaskar), to boost circulation and keep the body warm
• Carry out a daily abhyanga or oil application routine on head and body to moisturize the skin during the cold and dry months, boost circulation and prevent vata aggravation.

To be able to follow these Ayurveda-prescribed traditions with simplicity and ease in our hectic modern lives, Parama Naturals brings to you the following Skincare and Wellness products with immunity-boosting Turmeric, warming and circulation-boosting Ginger and Vata-reducing Sesame oil:

* Moisturizing Face & Body Oil: Provides long-lasting hydration to dry skin during the cold and dry winter months
* Zingiber Body Oil: This is a deep-penetrating(vata-reducing), circulation-boosting (kapha reducing) body oil and helps in relieving any stiffness in joints and muscles caused by the winter season.
* Multi-purpose Hair Oil: Ideal for scalp dryness, itching and hair fall, which are common in this season.
* Turmeric Essential Oil: Use this for inhalation or add a few drops in warm, spiced milk to drink at bedtime to boost immunity.
